MySQL Query Browser
Last MySQL 2004 presentation of the day . . . a demo of MySQL Query Browser.
Apparently (according to Jeremy) this tool has been in development for a matter of weeks, but is coming along so nicely they decided to demo it (the session was just announced today).
The GUI for both this tool and the administrator are clean and well designed.
Mike is showing the "build query" functionality where you choose the kind of query (select, insert, update etc). Really slick interface. It loads up the tables so you can easily click on columns to add to queries. Can split the windows into multiple and run a master query and then create a detail query using columns to build where clauses (unlimited levels). The gui allows you to run two queries and compare results.
Like the MySQL Administrator the help is inline, for functions, statement syntax.
Comes with the ability to bookmark queries, a script editor for writing sets of commands and stored procs (includes ability to create break points), use transactions, explain queries, export to csv and Excel and SSL support.
You can interrupt a slow query gracefully with the stop button.
After a slick demo, Mike opens it up for suggestions for features:
- ability to execute commands and have them "recorded" to a script in the editor
- look at issues with locking
- ability to connect through am SSH tunnel
- shortcut keys customizable
- share reports
- graphic representation of data
