Recent Changes in MySQL
Got back to my favorite place in the MySQL docs tonight, the release notes for the 5.0 tree. I did a quick writeup back when 5.0.12 came out looking at changes in the recent history. Some significant changes between then and now, at version 5.0.18 (not released):
5.0.13
- CREATE VIEW now allows for DEFINER, to provide defining user, and SQL SECURITY syntax to set DEFINER or INVOKER - syntax allowed but parsed and ignored
- FEDERATED storage engine now uses the CONNECTION option for connection string (as opposed to the previously used COMMENT)
- OPTIMIZE TABLE and HANDLER not allowed in stored routines and triggers
- mysqldump correctly outputs triggers
- and a ton of bugs
5.0.14 (not released)
- RENAME TABLE works for views
- Table, column and constraint returned in error message when an InnoDB foreign key constraint is violated (this is awesome)
- and a ton of bugs
5.0.15
- The following now cause an implicit COMMIT; CREATE VIEW, ALTER VIEW, DROP VIEW, CREATE TRIGGER, DROP TRIGGER, CREATE USER, RENAME USER, and DROP USER
- and a ton of bugs
5.0.16
- CREATE VIEW uses DEFINER and SQL SECURITY syntax
- and a ton of bugs
5.0.17
- CREATE TRIGGER now allows for a DEFINER, to set the user who will be used to determine privileges when executing the trigger
- Stored procedures can contain recursion, but recursion is still not allowed in stored functions and triggers.
- Many bugs
